Parenting from Beijing

Hi thank you for tuning in, my name is Iain, I am an absent father and I live in Beijing China, while my two children live in Scotland, the other side of the world to me.

Life circumstances keep us apart but through technology we can stay in touch and it is my job to help them navigate through life by sharing some of the things in life that I have discovered, screwed up on and learned from. Like most kids, they will ultimately find their own path and I encourage them to do that.

I welcome you to join us as we explore life lessons together.

I am in my 50’s now and I have made a lot of mistakes, I have done some good and learned a lot of things on that journey. I think I have made some difference but that is for others to decide.

I am at the stage where I want to give back in life. As I am seeing friends get old and face uncertain futures with health, finances and an ever changing political landscape that polarise opinions and causing divisions. I harken back to my own father who would always make the time to help others and who was a decent man, a great father, and who was always kept in check by my awesome mother.

To put a frame in place of what I will share with my kids, I would go back to a promise I made to them and to myself when they were first born.

Becoming a parent is a scary, exciting and exhilarating experience and it is for life. It is a lot of responsibility and my promise to them was to be there and help them on three main themes; 1. help them learn how to protect themselves, 2. for them to be well educated in life and also in schooling and 3. to be well travelled so that they understood the vast opportunities that are out there in the world.

Now I am building on that promise and attempting to keep some of it alive even now that I am not always there in person. I will share with them things I have learned about life, personal finance, mindset, health and how to reflect back on your experiences so that you can take the learning and grow stronger.

I will share directly from my own experiences the lessons I have learned. I will also be take things from some of the great influencers and talents that are out there who are sharing some amazing content and I will attempt to curate and recommend some of the best to my ever curious kids.

To you guys, the audience, I hope you come along with me on this as I learn more about this new gig economy, the technology and the tools that you need to know in order to understand it and how to re-tool yourself for a future which is never quite here yet.

Thanks for joining us on this journey and please subscribe and share if you think any of this is useful to others.

Thank you for watching. And please leave comments below and help guide us as we explore.
